Gun boards going libertarian

I've been banned from several boards over the years because they were ALL completely moronic patriotards.

But what I'm seeing these day is that they are starting to get it. Don't get me wrong they're still very pro AIPAC types, but they're slowing starting to even wake up to that.

Anyone else noticing this?

What I have seen is that the boards that have always been neocon are still neocon, they're just mad that there is a democrat president even if his policies are more or less the same as Bush's were.

I just thought I should mention that "patriotards" are the way they are because they think with their emotions. They are not driven by logic. That may be of some use when you interact with them.

I wouldn't say that Obama's policies are the same as Bush's. Obama is happy to use the same wiretapping laws, Patriot Act and Rendition as Bush but his economic policies are very different. Bush also never waged war with those in the media that disagreed with him. Then there is Obama's hatred of Capitalism. As for personal views, it was clear that Bush believed in America and was proud of his country. Obama on the other hand is proud of his country when things are going his way. He's more of an internationalist then a patriot. I would prefer a President that puts his own country and the welfare of it's citizens first.
Don't get me wrong. Bush was a doofus. Many of his decisions helped lead to our economic collapse and the war in Iraq should never have been started. I am no loyal Bush supporter. Obama however is like a kid in a candy store. He knows what he wants and he's running wild with someone else's credit card to buy it. He's weak, dishonest and disloyal.

I visit several gun boards. I am very sorry to say I haven't seen much change in mindset. All of them extend nauseating adoration to law enforcement. Many of them ban you on the first offense if you suggest a cop is wrong.

The administration of these boards, and probably the membership, too, don't want to face the fact that gun laws repugnant to the Second Amendment are meaningless if law enforcement won't enforce them. I like peace officers, but peace officers mean policemen or sheriffs who refuse to enforce unconstitutional statutes. That's most gun laws. Politicians can't make tyranny without someone to "just follow orders."

Well, if gunboards is any indication then I'd have to say you're dead wrong.

The majority of gun owners in the U.S. are dumber than fence posts. I wouldn't feel comfortable around them with anything more in their grubby little hands than a can of Playdough.
Even then I suppose there's a hazard.

I agree. Plenty of dufi with guns. My solution to that is to begin training people on gun handling and safety and operation at an early age. It's a shame they don't at least familiarize kids with guns as early as 4th grade. Most adults haven't been through the military these days and really have no formal training whatsoever with them.

Kids should be part of a community malitia by age 16 and trained in it's usage as well.

You need to spend more time there. There is a group that is very libertarian - and it is growing over time. I have been there for a few years now - and people's attitudes ARE changing over time as they watch what is unfolding around them ( to the original point of this post )

There is also quite a few people who are less than enthusiastic about the direction law enforcement has taken in this country.

Let's get them out to an Appleseed shoot.

Lure them in with promises of teaching them to shoot 4 MOA at a rifleman's cadence and then we'll teach them about their American heritage and the price of that heritage.

After that loan them a copy of Ron Paul's "End the Fed."

One thing to remember is no one forces you to join a forum, the owners of the forums have the right to run them as they see fit. You, of course, are free to start your own forum and run it as you want to. shrugs Remember if you just want info you can the forums without interacting. There are several boards I read for info but I never post there because I know my views would be unwelcome.

The other thing to remember is that the type of comments that show up here on GIM - take on a different meaning when posted on a gun forum. I have heard of numerous examples of person posting messages on gun forums that could be interpreted as a threat - and getting calls and or visits from local police agencies, state police - even the secret service.

Why? How about because they people are on a GUN forum - therefore there is a high likelihood they actually have a gun.

What are the guys from GIM going to do? Throw a roll of nickels at somebody? ( kidding )

Whether or not your views are welcome has no bearing on their validity. An unhealthy mind surrounds itself with similar views, thus never has to use logic to evaluate new or better information or reasoning. So post there and raise hell. Let the opposition's insults roll down your back.

I don't like the fact that it seems every gun maker's site and every gun forum has "support the NRA" somewhere on their page.
